ARMY PITCHES IN TO CLEAN CHHANGU LAKE IN EAST SIKKIM.

On 5th July 2023, To Commemorate Sikkim environmental festival, about 150 Indian Army Personnel of Trishakti Corps took an environment friendly initiative by organizing  a cleanliness cum plantation drive at Chhangu Lake and adjoining areas as part of environmental theme ‘Olive Green Defending Green’. The central event marked the culmination of a series of environmental awareness campaign and cleanliness drive undertaken by the troops of Hilli Brigade from June 2023 onwards.

              The initiative was undertaken by Hilli Warriors in coordination with various stake holders including department of Forest & Environment, Government of Sikkim, Chipsu market committee representatives, Sikkim Police representatives and members of local panchayat committee of village Chhangu. 

            A joint interaction was carried out with senior forest officials by Indian Army officials. Issues related to waste management, water conversation, tourist behavior & need for environment conservation for future generations were discussed. Indian Army continues to lay impetus towards environment management and safeguard nature. A pledge to adopt sustainable environmental friendly practices to safeguard environment was undertaken by all the participants.
