INS Savitri, the warship that supplied Bangladesh with Covid-19 medicine, has a history that makes Indians proud.

4th December  is Indian Navy Day. This event is being celebrated in Puri in the presence of the President. On the eve of that, INS Savitri was brought to Khidirpur dock. INS SAVITRI is built by Mazagon Docks Ltd., Mumbai using all Indian technology. Three and a half decades ago, on June 7, 1990, the shipbuilding company handed over Savitri to the Navy.


Coast Guard, Indian Navy's warship 'INS Savitri', one of the guards of the country's waters, can run at a speed of 30 km per hour. With a top speed of 15 knots (30 km/h), the warship has several state-of-the-art features, such as 40x60 Bofors guns and a helipad capable of operating Chetak helicopters. Commanded by Commander Vijay Jha, the ship plays an important role in coastal and maritime security.


On Sunday  Commander Vijay Jha met the reporters with Naval Officer in-charge West Bengal Commodore Ajay Yadav. Where he says
This important day in December is observed as Indian Navy Day since the war of 71. The martyred soldiers of the Indo-Pak war are also remembered on this day. The war in which many Indian soldiers fought for the freedom of Bangladesh. Then the independent state of Bangladesh was born. The war of 1971 marked the valor of the Indian Navy.


Indian Naval Ship, INS Savitri, an indigenously built Offshore Patrol Vessel. The ship is part of the Eastern Fleet of the Indian Navy. The ship has wide ranging operational roles, including aerial surveillance and in Search & Rescue roles. In the past, INS Savitri has been deployed for various expeditionary missions.  It has taken part in patrol off Maldives, Seychelles and Mauritius. 
Indian Navy’s Offshore Patrol Vessel INS Savitri entered Chittagong, Bangladesh on 02 September 2021 to support efforts of the Bangladesh military and government agencies in combating the ongoing wave of covid pandemic in their country. The ship arrived with two 960 LPM Medical Oxygen Plants (MOP), one each for Bangladesh Navy and Dhaka Medical College. 

The people of Kolkata got a chance to see INS Savitri, the pride of the Indian Navy. The people of Calcutta were able to witness the history of the Indian Navy.
