This is an important step to protect the soldiers and the people of Sikkim from future disasters by deploying the right-time SONAR principle in state-of-the-art technology AFMS.
Trishakti Sappers’ Innovation Wins National Recognition for Flood Safety in Sikkim..
The Advanced Flood Monitoring System (AFMS), developed by the Trishakti Sappers of the Indian Army’s Eastern Command, has won accolades at Inno Yodha, a national-level competition promoting innovative solutions for defense and disaster management.
The AFMS was inspired by the devastating Glacial Lake Outburst Flood (GLOF) in the Teesta River in Sikkim in October 2023. Led by Hav Suresh PK of the Engineer Regiment, the system tracks water levels in real time and provides early SMS alerts to facilitate swift disaster response.
Using cutting-edge technology, the AFMS integrates a microcontroller, UV sensor, and GSM module, employing the SONAR principle to deliver accurate, timely warnings. It is a critical step toward safeguarding troops and the people of Sikkim from future disasters.
